Tax Rebates Inbound!

August 30, 2022

In mid-September, the Illinois Department of Revenue will begin issuing tax rebate checks under the Illinois Family Relief Plan that was passed as part of the State Budget by the Illinois General Assembly this past Spring. You may be eligible to receive both Income Tax and Property Tax rebates.

Income Tax Rebate:

If you were a) an Illinois resident in 2021 and b) had an adjusted income at or below $200,000 filing single / $400,000 filing jointly, you are eligible for the following rebates:

  • $50 if you filed single / $100 if filed jointly
  • $100 per dependent, up to $300.

Your maximum rebate possible is $400.

Property Tax Rebate:

If you were a) an Illinois resident in 2021, b) paid Illinois property taxes in 2021, and c) had an adjusted income at or below $250,000 filing single / $500,000 filing jointly, you are eligible for one of the following rebates (whichever is less):

  • One equal to the property tax credit you received on your Illinois income tax, or
  • $300

If are eligible and you’ve already filed your 2021 Illinois Income Tax, you will receive your Income Tax Rebate automatically. If you are eligible and you’ve filed both your 2021 Illinois Income Tax and 2021 Schedule ICR (Illinois Credits), then you will receive both your Income Tax Rebate and Property Tax Rebate automatically. If your Income Tax is on extension, you will need to file a Schedule E/EIC to get your Income Tax Rebate and a IL-1040-PTR for your Property Tax Rebate.
