Direct Deposit

Receiving a tax refund is great. Receiving a tax refund quickly is even better. Choosing Direct Deposit speeds up receipt of your tax refund by allowing the IRS to send your money directly to your bank account. Filers who use Direct Deposit also receive their stimulus checks earlier than those who do not. The vast majority of tax filers receive their refunds electronically via Direct Deposit, and you should, too. Not only is it safer – your check cannot be lost in the mail – it also provides more flexibility. For instance, you can direct your refund to multiple accounts.

Thankfully, setting up Direct Deposit is easy. When you prepare your tax materials, indicate to your tax preparer that you wish to receive your funds electronically. Also, be sure to provide the following information:

  • Bank Name
  • Routing Number
  • Account Number

You must provide this information with the rest of your tax materials – the IRS does not allow filers to set up Direct Deposit after their taxes have already been filed.
